A rowboat and its crew give this 1918 lithograph its character, and the title, *Every girl pulling for victory*, turns the oar stroke into a call for women to put their weight behind the war effort. The poster was made for the United War Work Campaign, a joint fundraising drive that collected money for welfare work among American soldiers and sailors. Its appeal to women at home asked them to give through donations, volunteer work and paid labor. The bright color and bold, simplified figures were typical of wartime posters, which had to catch the eye of people hurrying past on busy streets.
