Dated May 30, 1925, this glass negative records a reception in Cincinnati for William Howard Taft, a native of the city who had served as president from 1909 to 1913 and was then Chief Justice of the United States. The Cincinnati Commercial Club hosted the reception, and the National Photo Company, a commercial studio that documented American cities and public life in the early twentieth century, made the exposure. The title and date come from the studio's own labeling and a related negative, so some details remain unconfirmed. The streaks and blemishes on the glass are typical of age-related deterioration in the original coating.
