The Bock beer maid is a color advertisement for a strong, dark lager traditionally brewed in the cooler months and released in spring. Bock is rooted in German brewing, and American brewers often used festive female figures like this one to promote it. Chicago's Wilson, Wagner & Co. was one of several lithography firms producing colorful advertising prints of this kind in the 1880s, when cheap chromolithography filled saloons and shop windows. The imprint dates the print to late March 1887.
