The sitter is Leonid Ilich Brezhnev, whose name appears in this record as "Berezhnev," a variant of the more common transliteration. The catalog dates the print to the 1960s, but the date is bracketed and comes from an unverified caption card. Brezhnev rose through the Soviet Communist Party during those years, serving as chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet from 1960 to 1964, then as first secretary of the party from 1964, a post later renamed general secretary, until his death in 1982. Researchers should treat the date and caption details as provisional until they are checked against other sources.
