A steamer tied up at Moffitt's Landing in The Dalles, Oregon, is the subject of this c1899 photoprint. Before railroads and later locks reshaped river travel, cargo and passengers often had to be transferred and portaged around the rapids near The Dalles, which made the town a busy stop on the Columbia. The print carries a copyright credit to Gifford of The Dalles. The caption details come from an old card and have not been independently verified.
