Aboard the steamer *Okahumpkee* on the Ocklawaha River, this stereograph shows one of the shallow-draft paddle steamers that carried travelers and freight up the winding, tree-lined waterway in Florida. The river was a popular route for winter visitors in the late 19th century, when railroads and steamboats were opening the state to tourists seeking mild weather and scenic springs. Philadelphia photographer William H. Rau issued many such stereo views for the parlor-viewer market, so the card reflects the tourist interest of its time. The date given, around 1892, comes from an older caption and has not been verified.
