Coca-Cola is the drink named in this picture's record, and it places the image squarely in the history of American soft drink advertising. The Coca-Cola Company was founded in Atlanta in 1892, and by the early twentieth century its bottle and sign art had become a familiar part of the everyday landscape across the country. Images like this one were often used to promote the drink at soda fountains, grocery counters and roadside stands, where bright color and simple, repeated branding helped the product stand out. Look closely at how the lettering and the red palette do much of the work of selling the drink.
