Looking out from Constitution Hill, this view takes in the seafront and curving shoreline of Aberystwyth, the market town on Cardigan Bay on the west coast of Wales. The photochrom process used to make it was developed in Switzerland, where the Photoglob company produced color prints by transferring a photograph onto multiple lithographic stones, each inked by hand in a different color. The Detroit Publishing Company held the American rights and sold such views to travelers and collectors, many of whom mounted them in albums as souvenirs of European holidays.
