A glass negative from the Bain News Service shows houses in Washington left wrecked, and its title gives the date as March 2, 1914, though the record does not say what caused the damage. The title and date come from the agency's own negative or caption cards and have not been independently verified. George Grantham Bain's company supplied news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, so pictures like this one were usually made to document a local event for quick publication. Today the plate offers a glimpse of how damaged city houses looked a little more than a century ago.
