Outfielder Kiki Cuyler, pictured here with the 1925 Pittsburgh Pirates, was one of the club's leading hitters that season, when the team went on to win the World Series over the Washington Senators. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, a body of news pictures from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Glass plates like this one were the standard working format of press photographers of the era, and their fine detail is a large part of their value to researchers. The 1925 date comes from caption information that the Library of Congress notes is unverified.
