A projecting oriel window on the parsonage in Nuremberg is the subject here: a glazed bay carried out from the wall on brackets, a form common on the older houses of that city. The print is an albumen photograph, a process that dominated commercial photography from the 1860s into the 1890s. It sits in an album of travel views that also includes Prague, Munich, Dresden and Berlin, suggesting a visitor recording the architecture of German-speaking lands. Nuremberg's medieval streets drew many such sightseers during the period.
