Few rooms are as closely tied to one mind as this study at 20 Maresfield Gardens in Hampstead, where Sigmund Freud spent his final year. He had left Vienna in 1938 after the Nazi annexation of Austria, and the family settled in this north London house, which his daughter Anna Freud kept largely as it was. The view takes in the writing desk and the couch Freud brought from Vienna, surrounded by the antiquities he collected over decades. Freud died in the house in September 1939, and it is now the Freud Museum London.
