Mark Twain sits three-quarter length in this portrait, turned slightly to the right with a cigar in one hand, a pose that matches the public image he had cultivated by then. The print dates to about 1907 and carries the copyright of A.F. Bradley, a New York photographer, and it belongs to the New York World-Telegram & Sun collection. By this point Twain was one of the most photographed writers in America, and his full white hair and mustache, which became his trademark, stand out clearly here.
