This glass negative shows a laboratory at the Washington Sanitarium in Takoma Park, Maryland, though the title comes from unverified data supplied by the National Photo Company. The sanitarium was a health institution run by Seventh-day Adventists, serving patients in a suburb just north of the District of Columbia line with treatments built on diet, exercise and hydrotherapy. The National Photo Company was a Washington commercial firm that documented the capital region in the early twentieth century, and this negative dates from roughly 1918 to 1928. Streaks and blotches on the glass may come from deterioration of the original coating rather than from the scene itself.
