Oswego Point on Saranac Lake gives this view its setting, with the Algonquin hotel near the water and a motorboat working the lake in front of it. The Adirondack resorts of the early twentieth century drew summer guests by rail and steamer, and the Saranac Lakes region was also known for its sanatoriums and cure cottages for tuberculosis patients. The Detroit Publishing Company made views like this to promote travel, and the motorboat in the scene marks a period when gasoline launches were becoming a common sight on Adirondack waters.
