Little Round Top and the boulder-strewn slope of Devil's Den, the two features that anchored the Union left on July 2, 1863, are the subject of this drawing, which the record dates to July 4, the day after the battle ended. Union troops of the Fifth Corps, under Gouverneur K. Warren, held the hill against Confederate assaults that afternoon, and the fighting here was among the most intense of the three-day battle. The drawing is part of a Civil War drawing collection given to the Library of Congress by J.P. Morgan in 1919, and it records the ground as an artist saw it within days of the fighting.
