Georgetown, the older port town on the Potomac that was absorbed into the District of Columbia in 1871, is the subject here, though the title comes from a label added by the National Photo Company and has not been independently verified. The National Photo Company, active in Washington in the early twentieth century, produced large numbers of street and landmark views that were sold as souvenirs and reproduced as postcards. This glass negative, given to the Library of Congress by Herbert A. French in 1947, shows streaks and blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its original coating, which is common in glass plates of this age.
