A motor truck lettered for the Grove Lime & Coal Co. is the subject of this 8 by 6 inch glass negative, made sometime between 1910 and 1920. The company's name points to the coal and building-material trade of that era, when dealers moved fuel and lime by wagon and were beginning to switch to motor trucks. The National Photo Company, which recorded street life and commerce in Washington, D.C., and nearby areas, produced many such views. The Library of Congress assigned the title, since the record does not name the company's location. Streaks and other blemishes from deterioration of the original coating are visible on the glass.
