A train tied to both the American Red Cross and the English Red Cross in France is the subject of this glass negative, whose title refers to wounded men at a hospital camp. The date range on the record, 1910 to 1920, places it most likely in the First World War years, when Red Cross societies from several nations ran trains and camps to carry and treat wounded soldiers behind the front. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm, made many negatives of this kind. The faint streaks on the plate come from natural deterioration of the original coating, not from anything in the scene itself.
