Few posters of the period pair a call to enlist with a plea to buy bonds, as this one does, with its title linking "Enlist" to "Plow." Lloyd Myers is named in the title and Albert Frank & Co. is credited with the design, and the color lithograph was issued by the Hamilton Press sometime between 1916 and 1918, as the United States moved toward and then into the First World War. Posters like this promoted the Liberty Bonds that financed the war, asking civilians to contribute money as well as men. It shows how wartime advertising combined military recruiting with economic mobilization on the home front.
