Officers gather with their flags in this view, a formation the caption calls massed colors, and the abbreviation K.T. in the title points to a Knights Templar parade. The picture is a glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection, the archive of the Bain News Service, a press photo agency that worked mostly in New York from about 1900 into the 1920s. Fraternal orders such as the Knights Templar held large public parades at their conclaves, which drew crowds and newspaper coverage. The title comes from unverified notes made by the news service, so the exact event and date remain uncertain.
