At Jarrett's Station in southern Virginia, a night scene shows water tanks and engine houses burning under a moon above pine woods. The drawing, made in pencil and Chinese white on brown paper, is dated December 8, 1864, and its inscriptions note that the tanks would not burn until they were pulled apart and were not fully destroyed until the next morning. The station lay along the Weldon Railroad, a vital supply line for Confederate forces around Petersburg, and Union cavalry under James H. Wilson targeted such sites to disrupt rail traffic. The sketch was published in Harper's Weekly at the end of that month, and it was possibly made by A.W. Warren.
