Rather than a battlefield or a single statesman, this etching stages British politics as a comic pantomime, with Charles James Fox and Lord North cast as performers in the show. The record also names Mary Robinson, the actress who had been the Prince of Wales's mistress, and the future George IV, placing the prince among the figures being mocked. Published by E. Hedges in London in February 1784, it followed the 1783 coalition of Fox and North, an unlikely partnership that caricaturists attacked relentlessly. The American Revolution is also among its listed subjects, a reminder that the war's aftermath was bound up with these same parliamentary quarrels.
