Cornell's crew stands with its boat in hand, the team coxswain at left, in this color lithograph from about 1907. The university's oarsmen trained on Cayuga Lake near Ithaca, New York, and Cornell crews were among the best-known college rowing teams of the early 1900s. The poster carries the artist's pictograph and a 1907 copyright notice in the name of Chas. W. Beck Jr., so it was a published piece rather than a private print. Its flat areas of bold color and its strong, idealized figures reflect the look of athletic posters of that decade.
