A Princeton student in a sweater bearing a block letter P stands before the university in this color poster, printed in Washington, D.C., around 1901. The football he may be holding is hard to make out, but the letter sweater signaled an athlete who had earned a place on a team, which made him a fitting face for a promotional piece. Andrew B. Graham's photo-lithography shop produced many posters like this at the turn of the century, when colleges used striking images of students to attract attention. John E. Sheridan made the photograph, and the Potomac Press held its copyright.
