The rocky outcrops behind the performer set this poster apart from the stage-bound theater bills in the collection. The 1879 lithograph was printed by the Metropolitan Litho. Studio at 29 Warren Street in New York, from a design signed by R. Muller, with J. E. Jackson listed as agent. Burlesque in this period meant a comic parody or travesty, often built around a showy, lightly dressed performer, so the costume and pose were meant to draw a crowd. The title was devised by cataloguers rather than printed on the original, so the scene is best read as a general description of the figure and setting.
