Marked as the first official White House photograph of Jacqueline Kennedy, this 1961 portrait shows her half-length on a couch, facing the camera, in the first year of her husband's presidency. The print came to the Library of Congress from the United States Information Agency, which distributed government imagery, and its 1964 transfer date shows how such pictures passed between agencies and archives. The direct, composed pose hints at the public role she would soon reshape, including the White House restoration and the televised tour of 1962.
