A peppermint lozenge is an unlikely guest at the Hague Tribunal, yet this Paris poster from about 1900 places it there. The Permanent Court of Arbitration had been set up in the Dutch city in 1899 after the First Hague Peace Conference, so the setting would have been topical for readers at the time. Printed by P. Vercasson & Cie. as a chromolithograph, the poster plays on the court's seriousness with its exclamatory title, suggesting the candy is what the whole world is talking about. Its large size and bold color were typical of French advertising posters of the period.
