Bininger's Great Gun Bourbon is a bottle label from the New York liquor firm A.M. Bininger & Co., printed in color by the lithographers Sarony, Major & Knapp. Around 1860, the firm sold whiskey and other spirits in a city where distillers and merchants competed hard for shelf space, and eye-catching labels helped a brand stand out on bar shelves and in grocery stores. Multicolor lithography was costly but effective, and it made labels like this one a small showcase of mid-century commercial printing. The record credits copyright to Rufus Watles and L.C. Sanger, which points to the label's legal registration as a trade design.
