Bininger's Traveler's Guide is a color lithograph advertising Bininger's Bourbon whiskey, sold under the name of A.M. Bininger & Co. of New York. The print was made by the lithographic firm Sarony, Major & Knapp, which was one of the busier commercial printers in New York in the early 1860s. Its copyright notice names Rufus Watles and L.C. Sanger, who held the rights to the design. Liquor makers of this period relied on bright, eye-catching labels and broadsides to set their brands apart on crowded shelves and in saloons, and color lithography made that kind of display affordable.
