A courting couple beside a well anchors this 1897 advertisement, whose verse wishes that everyone might drink Cherry Ripe as the pair do. The sentimental caption was typical of the period, when advertisers relied on romance and popular verse to make a product memorable. The color lithograph was printed by Ketterlinus of Philadelphia for Hance Bros. & White, and it was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office. Notice how the well and the pair's leisurely pose borrow the imagery of wholesome sociability to sell a refreshing drink.
