This print shows a kite festival at Fukuroi in Enshū, the old name for the region of Tōtōmi Province in present-day Shizuoka Prefecture, with the Akiba shrine in the distance. Fukuroi was known for its large kites, which were flown in competitions and festivals. The shrine was dedicated to a deity believed to guard against fire, a major danger in wooden towns. The sheet belongs to the series *One Hundred Famous Views of the Provinces*, issued in 1859, which presented scenic and cultural places across Japan in the late Edo period. Its color woodblock technique and open sky make the flying kites the clear focus.
