Skyline Drive runs along the crest of the Blue Ridge in Virginia, and this view captures one of its winding stretches curving below a rocky, tree-covered summit. The road was built in the 1930s as part of a scenic route meant to showcase the mountains, and its gentle curves were laid to follow the natural contours of the ridge rather than cut straight through them. Notice how the roadway seems to hug the slope, a deliberate choice that made the drive feel like a journey through the landscape itself.
