The subject here is Katzenjammer Castle, a fanciful building at Wildwood, the amusement park on White Bear Lake just north of St. Paul, Minnesota. Its name came from the popular *Katzenjammer Kids* comic strip, which was then drawing wide audiences. Beside the castle, a toboggan slide, an early gravity-powered coaster with sleds running down an inclined track, shows how the park offered thrills alongside its lakeside pleasures. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this glass negative around 1900 to 1906, sold views of resorts and scenic places across the country, so the picture captures a popular summer destination of that era.
