Rosalind is the witty heroine of Shakespeare's *As You Like It*, who flees her uncle's court and spends much of the play disguised as a young man named Ganymede in the Forest of Arden. This chromolithograph, painted by H. Saunders, presents her as a graceful figure of femininity, a subject that suited the colored prints popular in the later nineteenth century. Chromolithography built up color through several inked stones, making such images affordable for middle-class parlors, where Shakespeare's heroines were often admired as models of character. The exact date is uncertain, likely between 1840 and 1890.
