A silkscreen poster from 1936 that announces "Exhibition Materials for the artist," a bit of promotional work that the Federal Art Project produced for artists showing their work in New York. The Federal Art Project was one of the arts programs of the Works Progress Administration, which employed visual artists during the Great Depression and used silkscreen printing to turn out posters at low cost. The poster's date stamp of January 5, 1939, on the back suggests it circulated or was filed for a few years after it was printed. Its subject tags point to exhibitions in New York State during the 1930s, a period when the Federal Art Project helped keep the city's gallery life going.
