Fred Lake is the player singled out here, and this glass negative marks him as a member of the National League club in Boston, which was then informally called the Doves. The Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold pictures to newspapers, produced the negative around 1910. The date and title come from later research by the Society for American Baseball Research, so they are estimates rather than details recorded at the time. Bain's glass plates are valued today for documenting early twentieth-century sports and newspaper photography.
