The title places this game at the Polo Grounds, the Upper Manhattan ballpark where the New York National League club played for decades, though the original Bain caption had guessed at American League Park. Boston's National League team was then known as the Doves, and their 1910 meetings with New York drew large crowds to the Polo Grounds. The picture is a small glass negative made by the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency that supplied newspapers with pictures of the day's news. Its date rests on later research by baseball historians rather than on a firm record from the time, so the exact game remains uncertain.
