Augusta, Georgia, is the setting here: this wood engraving shows a set of power pumps driven by Geyelin-Jonval turbines, the water-driven machinery that moved water for the city's supply. The engraving appeared in the sixth edition of *Water and Gas Works*, published in 1901, on page 104. Augusta had long relied on water power from the Savannah River, channeled through a canal that also served its mills, so the turbines fit a period when hydraulic engineering was still the main way to lift and move water. The record's details come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified.
