Its title borrows the closing words of the Lord's Prayer, "For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory," and the catalog tags pair that prayer theme with an Uncle Sam figure. The poster is a 1942 color print made from a painting by Howard Chandler Christy, the illustrator best known for his idealized women, the "Christy Girl." During the Second World War, many posters linked religious faith with the national cause, asking viewers to pray for victory and to support the war effort at home. The catalog notes are old and unverified, so details of the original commission and printing should be checked before they are cited.
