A soldier identified in the title as Sgt. Loghry is pictured at a camp called Summit, one of the remote Army posts tied to the Alaska military telegraph project of the early 1900s. The photograph comes from the William "Billy" Mitchell Collection, and its caption card links it to Alaska and to camps. Mitchell, later a leading advocate of military air power, spent these years in Alaska supervising construction of the line, and images like this one show the isolated conditions the men faced while building and maintaining it. The date, between 1901 and 1903, comes from an old caption card and has not been independently verified.
