This view of the facade of the former church of S. Agostino in Bergamo, in northern Italy, shows a building that has outlived its original religious use. The church belonged to the Augustinian order and dates to the medieval period, when Bergamo's hilltop old town was a center of religious and civic life. The print comes from Alinari, the Florentine firm that from the mid-19th century photographed Italian architecture and art for travelers, scholars and students. The caption card gives no date, so the exact year of the photograph is unknown.
