Charles Warren Fairbanks, an Indiana lawyer and Republican, was nominated for vice president alongside Theodore Roosevelt in 1904 and served from 1905 to 1909. This photoprint is dated to about 1904, the year of that campaign, when images of candidates circulated widely. Its copyright notice names R.L. Dunn of Mount Vernon, New York, though the record notes that some identifying details come from an unverified caption card. Fairbanks had already served in the U.S. Senate from Indiana, and a photograph like this shows how national political figures were presented to the public in the early twentieth century.
