The south portal of Saint-Pierre in Lisieux, a Normandy town in the Calvados department, is the subject here, rather than the church as a whole. Its pointed arches and carved stonework reflect the building's medieval Gothic origins. Lisieux suffered heavy damage during the Normandy fighting of June 1944, and Saint-Pierre needed extensive repair afterward, so the stone you see reflects both its age and the postwar work to save it. The caption card gives no date, so the photograph is best read as a general record of the church's exterior.
