Patrick Henry's most famous speech, delivered to the Virginia Convention on March 23, 1775, is the event shown here, set in Richmond where the delegates had gathered. Henry urged Virginia to prepare for armed resistance to British rule, and his closing words, "Give me liberty, or give me death," became the war cry of the Revolution. This print is a Currier & Ives lithograph, made decades after the speech for a popular market hungry for scenes from American history.
