The record shows working plans for the pedestal that would hold Abraham Lincoln's seated figure in the Lincoln Memorial, with its dimensions laid out for the builders. Architect Henry Bacon, who designed the memorial's classical temple, is named in the record, and the November 1917 date places the drawing early in the project, about five years before the building was dedicated in 1922. The seated statue was designed by sculptor Daniel Chester French and carved in marble by the Piccirilli Brothers, and its place in the memorial's central chamber has made it one of the most recognized images in the country.
