The only identification for this glass negative is the name Eva Morrison, a title the Bain News Service likely took from its own caption cards, and the library notes that it is unverified. George Grantham Bain built his news photography business in New York around the turn of the twentieth century, sending photographers to cover public figures, theater, sports, and current events for newspaper clients. Because the sitter's role and the date are not recorded, the picture is best read as an example of that working press practice, with its 5 by 7 inch or smaller glass plate typical of the period.
