A wide white border frames the color portrait on this card, and that plain edge gives the design its name and sets it apart from other cards in the set. The American Tobacco Company issued it between 1909 and 1911, slipping cards like this into cigarette packs as stiffeners. It belongs to the T206 series, which gathered hundreds of major and minor league players into one of the most widely collected sets of its era. Its relief and halftone printing shows how inexpensive color pictures of ballplayers reached ordinary buyers in those years.
