What sets this drawing apart is that Sigmund Freud himself signed, dated, and inscribed it, so it carries his approval as well as the artist's hand. Rendered in pen and ink, the head-and-shoulders study shows the founder of psychoanalysis turned slightly to the left, dated 1925, when he was already one of Vienna's best-known figures. The drawing was later shown in a 2004 exhibition on Jewish life in Vienna between the wars at the Jewish Museum Vienna.
