When are the other boys coming?" is the caption on this 1915 poster, and it turns a simple question into a recruiting appeal. Issued under the Central Council for the Organization of Recruiting in Ireland and printed by M'Caw, Stevenson & Orr, it reflects the wartime effort to bring Irish men into the British forces. Campaigns like this relied on social pressure, implying that those who had not yet enlisted were being noticed by their neighbors and communities. Chromolithographs such as this one used bold color so they would stand out on hoardings and in shop windows.
